Today I’m sharing 5 fun educational apps for preschoolers that have been kid-tested and approved by my three-and-a-half year old and my two-year-old. These are actually the only apps we have installed for them on our tablet and they requests them on a daily basis. I really try to limit screen time because I think it’s so important for little ones to develop those fine motor skills in their early years, so when they are playing with the tablet, I like that they are learning something as well.
About 75% of the time, I participate with my children while playing with the apps. Like most two-year-olds, she is much more interested in simply pushing the buttons. That’s great in teaching cause and effect, but I want her to get in the habit of repeating words/vocabulary especially with the spanish, shapes, and numbers. Modeling this for her while she is playing on the app is a proactive way of getting her to do that as well.
Since math is a new concept to my three-year-old, I do typically participate with her for Kids Numbers and Math By Intelliplay . She has been doing the Gus on the Go: Spanish for about a year now and she is completely independent with it. I’ve noticed that she has made much more progress receptively than expressively with Spanish (she knows the meaning of more Spanish words than she is using.) I think that will just come with time, and I really would like to make more of an effort of incorporating Spanish into our every day rhythm.
